PORTCO JOINS, "RACE FOR THE CURE 2010"
Every year Portco's owner, Macy Wall, is kind enough to support and sponsor all of his employees and their families to participate in the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure.
By participating in the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure®, the most successful charity event ever created, you and your family and friends can really make a difference as you
celebrate survivorship, honor those who have lost their battle, and most importantly, raise funds and awareness for the fight against this life threatening disease.
Join the fight where you live, work and play!!
The Oregon and SW Washington Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure® has one clear goal – saving lives. They are committed to serving all 36 counties in Oregon as well as the three counties in SW Washington: Clark, Skamania, and Cowlitz. 75% of their funds provide the following services for local women:
- Education about breast cancer and early detection
- Information and support to breast cancer survivors and their families
- Mammograms for the uninsured or underinsured
- Transportation and treatment support for survivors
In addition, 25% of their revenue is combined with Komen Affiliates nationwide, making Komen the largest private funder of breast cancer research in the world! Komen funding has touched every medical advancement related to breast cancer to date!

Minds Matter of Portland, Inc. has 104 mentors and 100% volunteer instructional and support staff that share in the vision of these academic programs. The programs help students expand their horizons and achieve their educational goals that they would not have been able to accomplish without the help and support of Minds Matter.
About Minds Matter:
Minds Matter of Portland, chartered in 2006, is a chapter of a New York based educational organization that provides supplementary tutoring and mentoring on Saturdays for highly motivated (3.2 GPA or better), economically disadvantaged sophomore, junior and senior high school students who aspire to the best four year school to which they can gain admission and financial aid. Students receive instruction in writing, critical thinking, vocabulary, grammar, public affairs, and math. The curriculum also includes PSAT and SAT instruction, field trips, career days, and debate. Each student is paired with two young professional mentors from the Portland business, professional, and educational community. In the Fall of 09-10, Minds Matter of Portland had 53 students and the need for 106 mentors, and a volunteer staff of 37 focused on curriculum, administration, logistics, and fundraising.
